Gezer Footwear’s green energy initiative

Gezer Footwear’s green energy initiative

Gezer Footwear has integrated solar energy into its operations by installing rooftop solar panels across its manufacturing facilities. The project aims to secure 75% energy savings through on-site renewable power generation.

In recent years, industrial facilities have increasingly pivoted toward renewable energy investments to mitigate rising energy costs and fulfill environmental mandates. Within this framework, numerous production plants are transforming vast rooftop spaces into solar power plants (SPP), meeting a significant portion of their electricity needs independently.

As a long-standing leader in the footwear sector, Gezer Footwear has launched this initiative to bolster its eco-friendly manufacturing ethos while optimizing operational costs. High-efficiency solar panels installed at the company's facilities are projected to generate 3,802 MWh of electricity annually, covering approximately 75% of the plants' total energy demand. These next-generation panels are designed to maintain energy production even under overcast conditions, a feature expected to significantly enhance the brand’s competitive edge in international markets.

"Environmental Impact Equivalent to 100,000 Trees Annually"

Commenting on the investment, Osman Özalp, General Manager of Gezer Footwear, emphasized that solar energy investments are not merely an economic decision but a profound environmental responsibility. Highlighting that the project prevents thousands of tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, Özalp stated:

"This achievement delivers an environmental benefit equivalent to planting approximately 100,000 trees every year. By reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, we are actively contributing to the preservation of air quality and the prevention of industrial pollution."

Compliance with European Union Regulations

Özalp further noted that "green production" has become a prerequisite for exporters due to the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Through this investment, he stated that the company has solidified its identity as a 'green manufacturer' in the global arena, particularly within the European market.

Pointing out that the solar energy project aligns with the global vision for renewable energy and climate action championed by First Lady Emine Erdoğan on international platforms, Özalp concluded: "For us, this project is more than just a cost-saving measure; it is a testament to our commitment to the environment and future generations."
